RS20 MINIQUEST SERIES | ONCE UPON A TIME: FORTUNES

Our 20th Anniversary miniquest series has seen you attend the party of a lifetime and take a trip back in time to save RuneScape’s future – now it’s time to put a stop to Relomia’s mischief, in Once Upon a Time: Fortunes!

In this third instalment you’ll need to recall three iconic quests from the 6th Age. Here’s how to get started:

Start

Speak to Closure in their office.

Requirements

  • Once Upon a Time: Foreshadowing
  • Once Upon a Time: Flashback

Recommended

  • Missing, Presumed Death
  • Dishonour Among Thieves
  • Death of Chivalry

Upon completion, you’ll be rewarded with a Medium XP Lamp and a cosmetic weapon override.

YAK TRACK: YAK TO THE LIGHT

Yak to the Light ends this Sunday July 11th. You’ve got just under a week to wrap up those last few tasks and grab yourself those shiny Seren-themed cosmetics!

THE BEACH

Those of you who haven’t been to the Beach before are in for a real treat. To take part, all you need to do is make your way to the Lumbridge Crater, where you’ll find loads of activities to try – a coconut shy, a BBQ, body building and more!

While playing these activities, you’ll earn XP and other useful bits and bobs. If you’re feeling spoilt for choice, then you’ll be pleased to know that every 15 minutes a new activity will get the spotlight, which gives you an extra 10% XP for taking part!

At 01:00, 09:00, 14:00, 16:30 and 21:00 Game Time, the Spotlight is replaced by Happy Hour, where all activities receive the 10% XP boost. While Happy Hour is active, the Temperature Gauge will not increase, and you’ll have a greater chance to get useful items while playing activities.

Be sure to keep an eye on that Temperature Gauge, by the way – when it fills up, you’ll need to take a break to cool down, and though you can still play all the beach activities on offer, you won’t earn XP. Need to chill out quickly? Grab yourself some Ice Cream!

Speaking of refreshments, you’ll also find a variety of cocktails on offer. Each one benefits different skills!

Lastly, you’ll want to keep an eye out for Clawdia. This bodacious crustacean spawns in the centre of the Lumbridge Crater at 45 minutes past the hour, every hour. She’ll stick around for 5 minutes, and sending her scuttling back home will earn you some sweet drops! The first time you kill her each day, you’re guaranteed an Anti-Sun Potion, which will keep you nice and cool while you max those XP gains.

Oh, and don’t worry about digging out appropriate swim gear – there’s a variety of outfits, pets, animations and other rewards on offer to ensure that you’re ready to walk the walk in the latest summer fashions.

WHAT’S NEW?

Regular Beachgoers will be pleased to hear that we’ve switched things up a bit this year! Here are the biggest changes:

  • Beach Ball Rolling has been removed.
  • New cosmetic rewards are available from skilling and the RuneCoin shop.
  • Old cosmetic rewards are available in the Oddments Shop.
  • The fan favourite Dungeoneering Hole is making a special guest appearance!

SKILLS

Jas has rallied a powerful army to spearhead the first assault on the Cathedral. Only adventurers with significant slaying experience stand a chance! You’ll need at least 92 Slayer to take on these merciless minions.

We also recommend you bring Tier 80 gear or higher, with at least level 80 in all stats for your chosen combat style – though it’s not a requirement.

One more thing – rumour has it this first army is bearing siege machines of some kind, hoping to break down the Cathedral’s defences with brute force. While you’ll still need to be combat-ready, having level 90 in Construction may also open up some unique opportunities (if you haven’t already, this is a great time to try the Construction Contracts added last November!).

THE STORY

The Elder God Wars Dungeon is a pivotal moment in a saga that’s been building throughout the Sixth Age.

While no specific quests are required to access this first front or the City of Senntisten, the battle is best experienced as part of the wider Elder God Wars saga. Here’s our quick guide to catching up with the story so far:

Minimum

This is the minimum we recommend to follow the story of the Elder God Wars:

  • Elder God Wars Quest Series:
    • Azzanadra’s Quest
    • Battle of the Monolith (miniquest)
    • City of Senntisten
  • Other Quests:
    • Desperate Times
    • Desperate Measures

Recommended

For the lore-loving player, completing the following quests is the best way to have all the context for the events in this first front:

  • Elder Gods Quest Series:
    • Fate of the Gods
    • Heart of Stone
    • The Light Within
    • Children of Mah
    • Sliske’s Endgame
    • The Needle Skips
    • Desperate Times
    • Desperate Measures
  • Elder God Wars Quest Series:
    • Azzanadra’s Quest
    • Battle of the Monolith (Mini-Quest)
    • City of Senntisten

USEFUL ITEMS

WARNING: This section contains tiny spoilers for the Elder God Wars Quest Series.

When heading into a momentous battle, the well-prepared soldier will of course need food, potions, and maybe just a little spare cash. On top of the usual combat necessities, there are a few specific items worth picking up before you venture into the first front:

Shard of Erebus

Earned by completing the Battle of the Monolith miniquest.

Pontifex Observation / Shadow Ring

This mysterious ring is first acquired in Azzanadra’s quest (Observation) and can be further upgraded after the City of Senntisten quest (Shadow).

SEE THE REVEAL

Now that you’re battle-ready, join us as we unveil this new front! The reveal trailer debuts on Friday July 16th at 16:00 Game Time on our YouTube channel.

Get ready, World Guardian. The fight for Gielinor is about to begin…

NINJA STRIKE 24: COMBAT BONANZA!

Wham! Bam! Kapow! Ninja Strike 24 covers all things combat, all over Gielinor!

But first, no adventure would be complete without a trip to the Bank – and with five new free Bank presets, it’s going to be a whole lot quicker to get your fighting gear in order. Yes, you heard that right – members will have 15 shiny Bank presets waiting for them when they log in after today’s update. Enjoy!

But wait, there’s more! We’d like to introduce you to ‘Cease’, an exciting new ability that lets you pause combat momentarily with just one click – for those times when hitting that big monster might be less than beneficial to you and your teammates! Cease lasts for up to six seconds, and will:

  • Pause Revolution
  • Pause auto-retaliate
  • Pause familiar auto-attacks
  • Cancel a queued ability or special attack
  • Immediately end an active channelled ability
  • Cancel a charging Detonate ability

When the effect ends:

  • Revolution will begin again
  • Auto-retaliate will re-activate if it was turned on previously
  • Familiars will resume auto-attacking

Speaking of time, we’ve also introduced a Boss Instance Timer that’ll make it easier than ever to track boss runs. You can turn it on or off via the Information Windows settings menu, under ‘Boss Instance Timer’, and move it around in Edit Layout mode.

You’ll also find that Scrimshaws of the same type and tier can now be combined for a maximum of 24 hours, and you’ll now be able to customise how you view perks on your equipment. Be sure to check the Patch Notes to see everything that’s changed!

THE BEACH 2021

It’s back! Gielinor’s premier vacation destination has returned to the Lumbridge Crater, along with bucketloads of fun activities to try and summertime cosmetics to collect.

The Beach will stick around from now until August 8th, at which point the citizens of Lumbridge will get tired of people dragging sand through the castle and demand that we return their Crater to its former glory.

PHOENIX LAMPS

Starting tomorrow, this Treasure Hunter Promotion will be filled with snazzy new cocktails, as well as the usual selection of goodies.

Here’s a few of our favourites!

A Hole in One will increase the XP you gain from the Dungeoneering Hole activity by 10%, and will let you complete up to 60 floors, or 75 actions, before having to take a break.

The Palmer Farmer will grant you 300% more XP from picking palm trees, and means they’ll no longer deplete when you do so.

THE ARMY

The Nodon Dragonkin, awakened from their slumber under Anachronia, are laying siege to Senntisten.

This new horde of Slayer creatures are made up of Guards (Melee), Hunters (Ranged) and Artificers (Magic) alongside the even more deadly Engineering variant. Given their powerful and savvy nature, only a highly experienced Slayer (92+) can hope to defeat them.

Alongside their brutish warriors, the Nodon have brought almighty Siege Weapons to break the Cathedral’s defences. Destroying these machines will be vital to the Cathedral’s survival – but players experienced in Construction (90+) may just be able to turn their own weapons against them!

You won’t be battling alone, either. Having set aside their differences to tackle a greater threat, some of the original God Wars Generals – Zilyana, Nex, Kree’arra and K’ril – have joined the fray. Each of them can gift you a temporary bonus ability to help you resist the onslaught.

As you smash through the fearsome Nodon armies, you could be lucky enough to find special upgrade kits based on the Nodon’s Siege Cannon technology. Each of these three kits can be used on your Dwarf Multicannon, Kinetic Cyclone or Oldak Coil to amp up their damage. The Dwarf multicannon also comes with an impressive new look!

THE GENERAL – KERAPAC, THE BOUND

Kerapac – once saviour of his race, now slave to those he once fought – awaits you for an epic showdown within the Grand Colosseum of Senntisten. He can accommodate 1-3 players for both Normal and Hard Mode, but we recommend taking him on solo for both.

With two Elder Artifacts in his possession, The Needle and The Staff of Armadyl, Kerapac makes a formidable foe. To defeat him, you’ll need to manipulate time itself.

This fight is a step up in difficulty from any of the previous four God Wars 2 Generals, featuring three phases (plus an extra fourth phase on Hard Mode). We’re saying no more for now – you’ll just have to survive his onslaught to tell the tale…

THE REWARDS

The plus side of battling someone with access to legendary equipment is that you’re in for some incredibly powerful drops – including the first EVER Tier 95 weapon!

ABILITY CODEX: GREATER CONCENTRATED BLAST

Upgrade Concentrated Blast to a more powerful variant!

GREATER CONCENTRATED BLAST

Blast the target with beams of concentrated energy.

      • 70%-290% total ability damage over 1.8s in 3 hits (up from 48%-246% over 2.4s)
      • For every hit channelled, gain 5% critical strike chance on your next ability

TIER 95 WEAPON: STAFF OF ARMADYL

Exclusively for those who can master Kerapac’s Hard Mode, one of the most powerful rewards in RuneScape awaits – the legendary Staff of Armadyl!

This Staff has a hugely significant history within the world of Gielinor, and we’re not going to reveal how to wield it for yourself – that’s for you to discover! For now, here’s a preview of its unique special attack:

Special Attack: Instability – Launch an unstable blast at your target for 50-200% weapon damage. Each time you land a critical strike against your opponent in the next 30 seconds, your staff will fire an extra spell.

Merge this special attack with the Greater Concentrated Blast ability and the Essence of Finality Amulet and you’ll have a power output that even the Gods will dread!

KERAPAC’S WRIST WRAPS

This set of Tier 85 Magic Gloves enhances the Combust ability.

Wear these gloves and, for six seconds after using the Dragonbreath ability, the Combust ability will deal 25% more damage – and deal it instantly.

SCRIPTURE OF JAS

The Elder God Wars Dungeon will introduce brand-new God Books based on each of the Elder Gods. These God Books offer improved stats over Illuminated God Books, and each come with a unique effect. In the Nodon Front, the book is the Scripture of Jas, which offers:

      • +5 Prayer bonus
      • +8 to all styles
      • Special Ability – Time Rift: For 10 seconds, all damage from abilities is added up, then 20% of damage is fired off against your current target!

The Book itself can only be acquired as a drop from Kerapac, but Pages can be dropped by any enemies on the Nodon Front.
*Note: Elder God Books cannot be illuminated.

OTHER REWARDS

While these are the main rewards available with the Nodon Front, there are a few more secrets to be discovered. Let’s just say that it may be worth packing your Pontifex Shadow Ring…

FREE DEATH WEEK

For each front we release, you can benefit from free death reclaims and free Ring of Death charges when engaging in combat activities.

LET BATTLE COMMENCE!
