Coming back to Destiny 2 is less about remembering every old activity and more about learning the new routing layer. Llama video focuses on Portal, account power, armor changes and what still deserves your time.
Bungie posts around the 2026 updates are the official fact source. The video is the practical catch-up pass: where to click first, what to ignore for now and when to open the vault.
The catch-up map
| Jump | What to watch for |
|---|---|
| 00:00 | The June update is the reason to re-check the systems before committing time. |
| 01:00 | Portal is the main structural change returning players need to understand first. |
| 03:00 | Portal Ops categories group older activities into current reward paths. |
| 05:00 | The hub helps identify what is relevant during the week. |
| 06:00 | Account-wide power logic can make alternate characters less painful. |
| 08:00 | Armor stats and tiers changed enough that old gear needs a calm second look. |
| 10:00 | Do not panic-delete gear before you know the current reward and build context. |
| 15:00 | Start with content that reintroduces systems and rewards useful gear. |
Start with routing, not the vault
The worst first move is opening the vault and deleting gear in a panic. Learn Portal categories, current rewards and the seasonal hub first. Then decide what gear has a job.
- Read the current Bungie update notes.
- Open Portal and learn the activity categories.
- Pick one reward path instead of sampling everything.
- Check account power and alt catch-up before grinding.
- Review armor and vault filters after you know what your build needs.
Gear needs context
Alternate-character leveling and armor rules are easier to understand after you know what the current activities reward. Old gear is not automatically dead, but old habits may be.
What to play first
Pick content that teaches the current systems and pays out gear you can use. Avoid hopping between every old mode until you know which path is actually moving your account.
