Video breakdown

Most new Dota 2 players ask which hero to learn. BalloonDota video asks the better question: are your lane, farm, positioning and fight choices giving any hero a chance to work?

This is a fundamentals guide, not a patch guide. The value is that the habits survive hero changes.

The five-minute fundamentals pass

JumpWhat to watch for
00:00Dota feels impossible when new players try to learn every system at once.
01:00Laning gets worse when players overthink counters and ignore simple resource habits.
02:00Send regen early and leave bad lanes before they waste the whole game.
03:00Supports still need farm through pulls, stacks, empty lanes and small camps.
04:00Better positioning prevents deaths that stop farm, XP and map pressure.
06:00Cores often need survivability before extra damage.
07:00Do not force high ground or chase kills when the map state is wrong.

Learn the game in this order

Start with lane survival and resource use. If you are out of regen, late to pulls or dying before level six, your hero pick is not the main problem.

Then learn where safe farm exists. Carries need efficient waves and camps. Supports need enough gold for utility items. Mid players need to know when leaving lane creates more value than staying.

Fight entry decides more than damage

New players die because they stand where only tanks or spell-immune cores can stand. Damage does not matter if you die before casting or hitting.

The closing habit

Every fight should lead to an objective, map control or safer farm. If it does none of those, you are probably giving the enemy a comeback window.

After watching, play five games on one easy hero and track only deaths before 10 minutes, farm or support item timing, and whether each fight won anything real.
