The main edition comes with a swanky red cover and is now available around the world as a hardcover book and a digital edition for e-readers. For our most dedicated fans, the Deluxe Edition went on pre-order back in March exclusively on the RuneScape merch store and the last stock which had been held back to cover any returns has just been added to the store. It features a black cover with foil treatments - very fancy - and comes with gilded page edges, a card slipcase, a ribbon bookmark and a hard-backed folio containing two archive-quality art prints. The content on the 224 full colour pages inside is the same as in the main edition.

The first folio print is an iconic Tim and Crunchy illustration. The second, which has just been revealed, is a battle scene from the archives featuring General Graardor. Created in 2012 for a series of unused loading screens depicting the God Wars, the note on the illustration reads “The Lesser Gods opened gates between Gielinor and other neighbouring realms and brought into it new races to fight their battles”.

COLLECTING SHARDS

To secure your Golden party Hat you'll need to both be a RuneScape member and obtain 8 of a possible 11 shards spread across the game. Here's where you can find them throughout the Anniversary event:

(1/11) Talk to the Wise Old Man who is waiting for you outside the Grand Exchange in Varrock. Easy peasy!
(2/11) Complete the 'Once Upon a Time in Gielinor' Anniversary quest - you can read more about that here!
(3/11) Every time you earn a Mark of War, there is a chance to earn a shard.
(4/11) Shards are also a possible drop from completing Clue Scrolls.
(5/11) One shard can be had when training Combat skills (Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Prayer, Magic, Constitution, Summoning).
(6/11) One shard can be had when training Gathering skills (Mining, Fishing, Woodcutting, Farming, Hunter, Divination, Archaeology).
(7/11) One shard can be had when training Artisan skills (Herblore, Crafting, Fletching, Smithing, Cooking, Firemaking, Runecrafting, Construction).
(8/11) One shard can be had when training Support skills (Agility, Thieving, Slayer, Dungeoneering).
(9/11) Another shard can be obtained at Level 15 of the free track in the Christmas Yak Track event.
(10/11) One shard can be purchased with 30 million in-game gold.
(11/11) One shard is given with Premier Club 2022 membership purchase.

Once you've got eight shards in your inventory, simply go back to the Wise Old Man at the Grand Exchange where he will magically transform them into the coveted Golden Party Hat! Note that additional shards cannot be traded and have no other use.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

The opportunity to find shards won't last forever - they'll only be available in-game between November 22nd and January 3rd. However, you'll have a grace period of two weeks after the end of the event (until January 17th) to trade in your shards for the Golden Party Hat, at which time your shards will turn into dust and your chance will be lost forever! For Ironman players you will still receive the Oddments just not the other items.

YAK TRACK: WINTUMBER AURORA

The Queen of Snow has arrived in Gielinor, and she needs your help! Assist with her tasks and you’ll receive a host of wintery cosmetics, plus a maximum 20% XP boost! Yak Track: Wintumber Aurora will run from November 29th to January 9th. Here's a sneak peek at just a few of the rewards you can earn in this new Yak Track!

Tier 15: Aurora Cape and Golden Party Hat Shard A double whammy awaits at Tier 15, with the beautiful Aurora Cape and a shiny Golden Party Hat Shard! You can use the latter to craft your very own, super-rare Golden Party Hat.

NEW TASK: SECRET SANTA

This track’s new task type is all about generosity – ‘tis the season of giving, after all! Head to the Burthorpe Yak Track area and speak to Sir Desmond Wellingtons KBE (the polar bear) to try it out. You’ll need to donate items to the value of 10,000 GP or higher to participate. The Yak Track tasks will specify certain values, ranging from high to low. The donations can be anything you’d normally be able to sell on the Grand Exchange, with the notable exception of Bonds. In return, you’ll get to draw from the prize pool once every two hours – and who knows what gifts you’ll get? In the rare event that there are no prizes available, you’ll receive one of the following items upon drawing:

"But wait a second," you may say. "Didn't Jagex run free death weeks for ALL bosses very recently in Elder God Wars Dungeon?". And you'd be right! We've been offering these free deaths effectively as an admission that our death system doesn't really work that well, especially when it comes to learning tricky new bosses. Death is not only a problem in terms of costs for the top PvM players, it's also a barrier to casual or mid-tier players trying PvM, as they either don't understand how death works or worry about losing money. We want to tackle all of these problems, but doing so requires the right data. We don't want to do anything until we're confident we fully understand all of the issues involved. Free death weeks have given us a good amount of data already, but thus far they have been fairly scattershot. Frank's Free Deaths changes that, allowing us to target different bosses and difficulties, while also looking at what sort of players are taking part and how they're playing. By the same token we can also see what content you engage with less. The bosses for each week have been selected to offer varying difficulty, rewards and areas to play in, with the hope that (almost) everyone has an opportunity to fight a free death boss each week. Indeed, we'd love to see players who may perhaps not normally tackle bosses get stuck in - and perhaps even fight new bosses for the first time. Because Elder God Wars Dungeon recently had a number of free death weeks, we've decided to leave it out of this event this time. Plus, the data we already have for that will serve as a great comparison for us to learn from. This is the first step on a long journey toward understanding all of the complexities around reworking death in RuneScape. And it's a journey we've been on for a long time, as we've been working through a ton of players feedback on the issue. The more we learn, the better equipped we will be to provide a solution. While some may think that the answer is quite obvious (just cap death costs!), death has far-reaching consequences for our economy and newcomers to PvM. Any changes must be considered very carefully. We're sure you appreciate the delicacy! We hope that this helps you understand our current thoughts, and explains why we're cautious about making changes that will have a huge impact on the game as a whole. As explained above, Frank's Free Deaths is the beginning of some targeted data collection around this subject, and it's likely that you'll be seeing Frank's face again...
