Minecraft for PlayStation®5
We have some exciting news for our PlayStation®5 community! Today
we’re launching the first preview of a native version of Minecraft for the Sony PlayStation®5 – and we need your help to test it!
If you own the PS4® version of Minecraft for your PS5®, you’ll be able to access and test this early version by navigating to “Settings” and then “Preview” within the game*. This preview includes the new Tricky Trials Update, so you can venture into the trial chambers, meet a breeze, craft a mace, and more – all while trying out a version of Minecraft that’s designed for your console! As this is a preview version, we’ll need your help in hunting bugs (and we’re not talking about the silverfish spawning from trial spawners), as well as gathering any feedback. You can find out more about how to submit this below!
*PS5 Preview will start to roll out at 9:30am Pacific Time / 18:30pm CET. Please note that it may take a few hours for you to see it enabled on your device.
Why are you making a version of Minecraft for the PlayStation®5?
We believe that Minecraft is better when more friends can play together, however they want, on whichever device they like. We even welcome players who like to dig straight down into the nearest lava block!
Currently, however, the only way to play Minecraft on a PlayStation®5 is by purchasing the PlayStation®4 version of the game. By developing a native version of Minecraft for PS5® we’ll be able to make the game run more effectively on the PS5®’s hardware. So you can lose your inventory in lava in the smoothest possible way!
What is a preview version?
A preview version is a testing version of Minecraft, which is why your feedback is so valuable to us. We’ll use your feedback and any reported bugs, to ensure we can deliver the smoothest gameplay experience possible to our PlayStation®5 players when the full version of the native game is ready to launch.
Preview builds will likely be unstable and are not representative of the final version quality. Please back up your Minecraft worlds before joining a preview version of Minecraft.
Can I play multiplayer in this preview version?
As this is a preview version of the game, multiplayer is only possible between other players on Sony PlayStation consoles. This includes the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5.
The exception to this is playing this preview on Realms, which allows you to cross-play with players on other devices. You can read more on this below.
Can I play this preview version on my PlayStation®4?
No, to play this preview version you need to own and play a copy of Minecraft for PS4® on your PlayStation®5.
Can I play on Realms in this preview version?
Realms are available in this PS5® preview, so if you have an active Realms subscription you will be able to create a preview realm. A preview realm is separate from your regular realm – this is to stop any issues from affecting your regular realms, as preview versions of Minecraft can be unstable (and we’re not just talking about the exploding creepers).
If you play this preview on Realms, you will be able to cross-play with players on other devices.
Can I access the store in this preview version?
This preview version will not have access to the Minecraft Store.
Where can I send bugs or feedback?
We have
a dedicated feedback link to collect your thoughts on this Minecraft PS5® preview, and you can also
send us feedback via Discord. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, as it’ll help us shape the full, native version of Minecraft for the PS5® and get it ready for launch. You can also
submit your bugs via this link!
So why not test out the trial chambers and the new preview today – from the comfort of your PS5®!
